PORT OF BRISTOL U18 4 CHIPPING SODBURY TOWN U18 1 As in last weeks game against Wickwar Wanderers Chipping Sodbury started with all guns blazing and they quickly got on the score sheet with a great solo effort from Ross Womack when he peeled away from the Port’s back 4 and shot the ball forward past the keeper and into the bottom corner of the goal. However Port of Bristol settled down to the task in hand and 15 minutes later Mason Smart latched onto a through ball and drew Port of Bristol level with a well composed finish up and over the keeper. Just after the half hour Jay Spicer smashes a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner to give PoB a 2-1 lead. Sodbury fought back and with 5 minutes of the half remaining an excellent curling freekick from Chipping Sodbury seemed to be heading into the top corner, but Ports keeper Caolan Pearce pulled off an exceptional fingertip save to deny them the equaliser, to rub salt into the wounds an exquisite freekick from Finely Smiths up and over the wall and past the keeper gives Port a 3-1 lead going into half time Following the interval both team strove to increase their scores but it was not until mid way through the half that Port scored their fourth goal when Port defender Tom Green launches a free kick from inside his own half into the Chipping Sodbury box, which caught the keeper off guard and fly over him into the net to put Port in an unassailable lead and secure the victory. A special mention to these Port of Bristol lads, who during this cup final was their last ever youth game of football together. Achieving the division 3 title and winning the plate competition last season, and securing cup success this season. An excellent 2 years at U18’s football spent together. Report - Ashley West |
