Match Report:
Jake Thomas Scores Two as the sods win against Clevedon Town
After Saturdays 3-1 win over Bradford Town FC, the Sods were looking to take the confidence from this game into the game against Clevedon Town.
The first half was pretty un eventful, which from Sods perspective was to be expected after the effort put in Saturday. There was only a few clear-cut chances in the first half. Lewis Powell, completed some great individual work and got his shot off from the edge of the box pulling a great save out of the Clevedon keeper. At the other end, Clevedons Saikou Janneh had a couple of chances, a shot from the edge of the box that went straight at Sam Burgess who saved comfortably, and a flicked header from a Clevedon corner that went just over the bar.
Clevedon came out the stronger team in the second half following a change of formation, however after the first ten minutes the Sods got on top and started to create chances with Lewis Powell just missing out on getting on the end of a great cross for a tap in and then Jake Thomas hit the inside of the post from a free kick on the edge of the box and was unfortunate to see the ball go across goal and back out. Thomas did not have to wait long though as on the 76th minute he opened the scoring. Great work from Liam Pullen, holding the ball in the Clevedon Box and slipping in Tom Fry, who made a great run and squared the ball across the goal to Jake Thomas who drove the ball into the net. Thomas was to get a second only 3 minutes later when he pressed well and robbed Clevedons defence of the ball and run through and placed the ball past the Clevedon keeper with composure. The game was wrapped up late on when Dan Dempsey finished excellently through a crowd of players after a free kick from Liam Pullen had rebounded off of the bar.
The win for Sodbury means that we remain in thirteenth place. The result has meant that Clevedon Town have slipped down from tenth to twelth and are now just three points infront of sodbury.
The sods are looking to carry on their short winning run with two games over the easter weekend. We start with Cadbury Heath on Friday (15:00 kick off). Then on Monday we face Bridgwater Town (14:00). Both games are at home and we hope to see you there supporting the sods.
