CHIPPING SODBURY TOWN 1 WESTBURY UNITED 1 WESTBURY United secured a fine point at Chipping Sodbury Town last weekend but came within a whisker of vanquishing the league leaders on their own turf. Francois Allen’s header three minutes before half-time looked to have put James Goddard’s men on track for a superb 1-0 victory in South Gloucestershire but the home team snatched a late equaliser to deny United an almighty scalp. After a confident start, which saw Josh Ferguson go close to opening the scoring, Zayn Alime and Ferguson combined to tee up Allen for a bullet header in the 42nd minute. Westbury goalie Charlie Heydon was forced to pull off a string of saves in an attempt to keep out Chipping Sodbury, including a fine stop from Harley Warren, but with 85 minutes on the clock, the hosts did spare their blushes as Ollie Clarke’s corner was put in by Dave Sims. In the dying stages, a Clarke corner hit the post whilst United almost stole a winner as Dan Moore fed Adam Kenich but he shot wide with just the keeper to beat. |
