Sodbury have an international player?
The first team manager pulls off an April Fools Prank on Social Media.
Neil Simon’s (First Team Manager) decided to get into the spirit of April Fools Day, when he attempted to prank people all over social media.
The Message was as follows:
“We have an international player on our hands 😱😱😱😱
In a very strange run of events we are delighted to announce that Theo Coombs (first team centre back) has been selected for his native countries nation team Guam 🇬🇺...
Theo recently returned to Guam and inadvertently got involved in a training session, which has subsequently led to his involvement in Guam’s upcoming national fixtures (in the close season)
Incredible news and everyone at Sods would like to congratulate Theo
As you can imagine some people were skeptical about the news but this was made more believable when the Guam Football Association actually retweeted the tweets.
A few hours later, Neil announced that none of the current cohort of players represent their countries on the international level and that the tweets were in fact a hoax. He announced this in a tweet.
“Some of you might have guess it but Theo is not from Guam 🇬🇺 and nor has he been there recently, and unfortunately we do not have an international player on our hands...
We still love Theo all the same tho...
I must admit, it is funny though when you get your club secretary messaging the manger worried that we have not got international clearance
Well played Neil, I think you got a lot of this with this one.
Shout out to @GuamFootball for playing along and retweeting the news.
